do i detect a spirit of intolerance on the beloved jwd board?
some posters can speak about anything and get a gaggle of positive responses.
others get beaten down for simply expressing a different viewpoint.
I've lurked (and occasionaly posted) in these parts since the '96 or so when it was the old H2O forum. Before that on the AOL groups. And before that on the old BBS's.
I've seen it all, nothing surprises me, these are just people. And they behave like people.
I agree, snowbird, that there does seem to be a mob mentality here at times. Hell, it reared it's ugly head here just a few days ago.
Everyone has an opinion, some cling to it to the point that NOTHING else matters. Those I do not allow to even get close to my sphere of influence.
It's like any community, you choose who you hang with and those you do not respond to.
the good.
thanks everybody for your warm welcome days ago (http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/141779/1.ashx).
we really enjoyed all your comments.
OOTB, I am glad you folks came back. This is a large community here, and like any community we have all the same types of people you will have in any community, online or otherwise . . . .The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, we got'em all.
I was plugged into the collective by my parents when I was 5 yrs old in 1958, so I had no choice.
I was truly and finally free in 1997 when I burned every Borg-vomited or shat piece of paper I owned . . including that f**ked over NWT they are so proud of written by "ANONYMOUS" Scholars . . .ooooo wow BFD. Anonymous so they do not have to answer to anyone for their lack of scholastic integrity and downright dishonesty.
There was alot of that paper, it took a whole day of feeding and tending that fire in my back yard one Saturday that August. My neighbors asked what was up and when I told them, they actually clapped and rejoiced with me!! We had a couple brewskies and some good conversation over that fire. The next day an older gentleman from a bit down the road stopped by, he is sort of the local scap collector guy but he was also a pastor of a small Christian chrch in the area. He said he heard what I had done and that he was one of the Borg from the 1940s to the early 70s when he got out over the fever about the coming of 1975. He said my wife and I had been to his house in field service about 7 years before (I didn't remember it) and that ever since then he was praying weekly for us to see the cult for what it was and get free of it. Cool.
The neighborhood was littered with little burned scraps of Borg paper for weeks after that.
Anyway, enough about me. The majority of us here are here for you. I am here because when I feel the need to vent or whine or gloat or whatever, there are those here who know where I am coming from and can understand how I feel. We have all walked the same or similar path.
Welcome back!
i have been following the news reports of the death of the 5 elders from tennesse that died.
in the plane crash.
several things really bother me.
Undercover, do you know the type and or tail number of the AC? This reminds me of the Tenet crash in NH back in the early 80s? What a tragedy. My youngest brother was with the party of searchers that was first on the scene. And I was there the next day, what a mess. If I remember correctly, he was flying in conditions he was not rated for. Exercising poor judgement flying *any* aircraft WILL kill you without remorse.
Edited to add . . . Never mind . . 95stormfront beat me to it on another post. Overloaded and with the heat, humidity and density altitude, the pilot was irresponsibly stupid to put even 3 large people on that plane.
Landi, I enjoyed your comment and agree with you. Civilizations have risen and fallen on this rock before us. The Noah story is just that; a story comprised of vocal tradition passed down for thousands upon thousands of years. The Earth has had catastrophic events/extinctions several times. There is a recent discovery (I will post some links if I can find it again) that some 12,000 years ago several large bolides impacted the ocean. These impacts are said to have caused tsunamis 100s of meters high that ripped across the globe.
Check out "Fingerprints of the Gods" and other writings by Hancock and Bauval
i decided to deep six the old one, it was donald sutherland from "invasion of the body snatchers".
to be honest, it even creeped me out.
maybe it was a defence mechanism to keep people at a distance .
Jimmi Hendrix, Bob Marley and Stevie Ray were huge influences on me. I had some older friends that went to Woodstock (the real one) and when they came back all they talked about was Hendrix doing the "Star Spangled Banner/Purple Haze". It was funny because I was already a fan of Hendrix's music and they sort of poo-poohed him. They came back converts to the Electric Sky Church and the Reverend J. H. Hendrix.
Greendawn, Bogie is one of my favorite actors. I aleays try to catch his movies when they show on TCM.
BFD, it freaked me out also.
The-Borg . . I do want it. I am beginning to get beyond the anger of the life I wasted in the collective so that avator, although cooler than kool, isn't *me* anymore. I will keep the tag Locutus of Borg forever though. Because like Jean Luc, all of us who have escaped the Borg will carry some painful (and in some cases), a debilitating, part of it with us forever. BTW, that scene your avatar is from is one of my favorite STTNG episodes. That one and the one where Jean Luc lived an entire lifetime in 20 minutes on that planet that was being consumed by it's own sun.
Highlander, there can be only one. Another favorite series of mine. My wife and I recently purchased the entire series (all 5 seasons) on DVD. We are looking forward to enjoying it all over again.
All, that move "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" scared the jeboobers outta me when I first saw it in a theater in London, Ontario. Man, I had the night light on for MONTHS after that! BTW, I met Donald Sutherland briefly on a shuttle bus at the Las Vegas Airport back in 87 or 88. I remember looking at him, realizing who he was, and being struck by how large his head was! Anyway, he realized that I recognized him and he said "hello". Me, being somewhta starstruck blurted out"Hello, erm . . didn't you used to be Donald Sutherland?". I swear thats what came out of my mouth . . anyway, we both had a good laugh over that. We chatted for a few minutes during the short ride. He was a very gracious and nice man.

Wow, kudos from a Supreme One and a Jedi Master!! Thank You!
:o)
maybe we are the crazy ones!
but, after a chat with the po of our congo, we felt a little better with the knowledge that we are not alone on the inside.
let us explain .... today we went to the ministry as every saturday :(.
Brent, I couldn't have said it better.
the camels you see are not the camels, themselves, but their shadows!
it took me a while to find them, but i did.. .
Very, Very cool!!!

Anyway, I hope you like my new one, it is much more *me*.
I present to you . . . Mr. James Marshall Hendrix, a free spirit if there ever was one, a musical genius who changed the way the guitar is played forever. A genius who was consumed by the industry that gave him his success. He made me realize, in 1967, when I was 14, that there was creative genius out there, that the Borg was not all there was. He woke me up to the beauty of musical expression and poetic prose. I sincerely believe that that awakening way back then was crucial to me being where I am now, out and free.
He was a catalyst.
